Though it is the low season and rainy season in Hua Hin, Jungle Aid has had an eventful month with fundraisers, two visits, and many new updates.

Visit to Bang Saphan

The Jungle Aid team visited our beloved School Children’s Shelter Community in Bang Saphan with two translators, 3 medical staff, 3 drivers and 2 activities leaders. In Bang Saphan, the team treated 17 patients, distributed birth control pills, delivered fresh meat, eggs, mung beans, canned fish, noodles, cooking oil, and laundry detergent (as well as 450 kilograms of rice supplied locally and delivered each month). Three truckloads of donations from our amazing Hua Hin community was also donated, including roll-up mattresses, toys, schoolbags, household items and clothing. The team also conducted a health promotion session focusing on handwashing and dental hygiene supported by some of the young people from the communtiy, after which we provided each child toothbrushes, toothpaste, milk and snacks as well. It was a really great visit, and so wonderful to come back every few months and see the children and young adults we have supported over the past 7 years.

Visit to Pongluek and BangKhloi

Our second trip this month was into the depths of Kaeng Krachan to Pongluek and Bangkhloi! The rainy season did not treat us kindly on this very bumpy and slippery off-road journey into the depths of the national park, but the team persevered and we had a really great trip. In Pongluek and Bangkhloi, the team treated in total 37 patients, and we also received an update on the young man who was bitten by a snake on our last visit (who is now recovering very well)! We also surveyed the main kitchen that is being built and the food support program we are funding as well. The team also conducted health promotion activities with the children in both villages on brushing their teeth and handwashing, before playing games and colouring activities too. We also rescued a puppy with infected wounds and worm infestations who we are now treating and looking for a forever home for! A very eventful trip but spirits remained high throughout, especially when the team got to sample some delicious local durian before we spotted three hornbills on our drive out of Kaeng Krachan, a real treat!!

Other updates

This month we were able to provide 585 kilograms of rice to the Naresuan Pala U Border Patrol School, feeding 200 students fed by their parents who take turn cooking the lunches!

Jungle Aid’s weekly thrift shop is open every Friday from 10 to 11 am (except for the last Friday of the month), and our next flea market is on Saturday the 30th of August from 11am to 2PM. Do pop by, there is a wide range of clothing, household goods, and books in multiple languages to choose from.

Jungle Aid is no longer using Bangkok Bank! We have an account with Kasikorn and Paypal available on the website if you would like to make any donations.
